ABC: Report calls for ban on new coal projects in the Hunter

A new report being released today by a coalition of health organisations is calling for a ban on all new coal projects in the Hunter Valley.

The report produced by health experts, academics and environmental scientists on behalf of the Climate and Health Alliance (CAHA) highlights what it terms 'serious threats to human health' from the rapid expansion of the Hunter's coal industry.

It estimates the annual health costs caused by pollution from the Hunter's five coal-fired power stations and fine particle pollution from the region's coal mines is more than $650 million a year.
